Over the next few months the Aware Project is planning a new series of events, the Psychedelic Community Dialogue series, to create space to have these important conversations. Let’s come together in community to address what we need, the standards we want to set, and the future we want to create.

DESCRIPTION
The imbalances of power within our society are glaring at us more and more. With the backdrop of the #metoo and multiculturalism movements, we see that same issues facing our psychedelic/entheogenic subculture and we are in need of taking a deep self-reflective look at how we may be perpetuating these problems.
How are we conducting ourselves?
What are our blind spots?
How can we now cultivate truth and reconciliation, healing, and create lasting changes?

Facing the Shadow: Community discussions on diversity, race, and privilege in psychedelics psychedelics/entheogens
PANELISTS:
TONY MOSS is a visual and recording artist, event producer, and founder of I.AM.LIFE, a non-profit event production company focused on interconnectivity. His work is a synthesis of passions in art, spirituality & science, with emphasis on the evolution of human consciousness and potential. SITARAMAYA SITA, who has traveled and worked in the Amazon for the past 17 years, is a spiritual herbalist and plant wisdom practitioner formally trained in the Shipibo ayahuasca tradition. Founder of PlantTeachers, dedicated to cultivating entheogenic awareness, and Producer of the Visionary Convergence conference, she lectures, teaches, and works with individuals and groups in ceremonies and stewarding plant dietas. She currently trains, teaches and practices to heal personal, institutional and cultural trauma. PlantTeachers.com
PAULA KAHN launched Cosmovisiones Ancestrales as a continuation of the liberation, peace building work she committed to at age fifteen. She wrote her thesis on the relationship between the United States for-profit migrant detention centers and the territorial dispossession of indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. Paula collaboratively founded Freedom For Immigrants’ National Pen-Pal writing program and operated FFI’s National Hotline to break the isolation of people trapped in migrant concentration camps (migrant “detention”). She is CODEPINK’s Co-Producer of the People’s Tribunal on the Iraq War. Paula strives to mediate with indigenous communities to preserve ancestral plant medicine so that a possibility may exist for its accessibility to populations targeted by state violence, as well as those who perform bystander behavior, or have misplaced their connection with their humanity. Paula has spoken at distinguished conferences and festivals to spread her visions for transitional justice, collective healing, and decolonization.
ISMAIL LOURIDO ALI, JD currently works as Policy & Advocacy Counsel for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), where he provides professional support for a variety of legal, educational, and community-building projects. He earned his J.D. at the UC Berkeley School of Law in 2016, and has previously worked for the ACLU of Northern California’s Criminal Justice and Drug Policy Project, and for the International Human Rights Law Clinic at Berkeley Law. Ismail also presently serves as Chair of the Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) Board of Directors, and participates on the Steering Committee of the Ayahuasca Defense Fund, all while producing an in-progress documentary about trauma, healing, celebration, and psychedelic medicine called Cura. Ismail believes that psychedelic consciousness is a crucial piece of challenging oppression in all of its forms.

VENUE
Our East Side Venue is no longer hosting events so we are trying out a new space! We are excited that Thymele Arts opened their doors to us. The space is located just off the 101 between Hollywood and Los Feliz. Please enter the building and go up the stairs. Our room will be just down the hall to the left.
PARKING
There are plenty of parking options. There is an underground parking garage at 1110 North Western Ave north of Thymele. Another option is in the strip mall with the Subway and T-Mobile at the intersection of Western and Santa Monica or across the street, behind the bakery with the black metal fencing. Allow extra time because traffic in the area can be a bit intense.
