with Guzel Gjenasaj | The Aware Project LA
Wednesday, November 11
7pm
Flow Life Sanctuary, Venice
As plant medicines move into the mainstream, a question is getting louder: what do we owe the traditions, lands and people who have carried these medicines for generations? On this 11/11 threshold, Guzel Gjenasaj speaks about ceremony as a living relationship, not an event. She draws on more than a decade as a fire keeper, eight years as a Moondancer in Teotihuacan, Mexico and years as a pipe carrier and ceremonial medicine guide.
Indigenous medicine carriers are asking to be acknowledged and included in this renaissance, and so are BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. Guzel’s talk takes that call seriously and asks what real reciprocity looks like in practice.
Ceremony also teaches us that every fire has a keeper, and that a keeper does not own the fire. Guzel will share what she has learned about tending traditions with integrity, letting them change without extracting from them, and knowing when to pass the torch. All are welcome. Come for the talk and the community, and leave with one act of reciprocity of your own.
