2015 August 19: Our speaker this month will be Richard Grossman, L.Ac., O.M.D., Ph.D. He will be sharing his knowledge of sound healing and engaging in a discussion on Amazonian shamanism and how he adapts it to Northern culture. His talk will be accompanied by musical performances.
Richard is both a Doctor of Asian Medicine and an accomplished sound healer and performer. He began his study of Asian Medicine in 1980, and was one of a small handful of Americans to attend the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. After receiving his Acupuncture License, Richard established a private practice in the Los Angeles area and began teaching at the California Acupuncture College.
In the summer of 2005, Richard was invited to give a presentation on sound healing at an international conference on Indigenous Healing in Iquitos, Peru. His travels to Ecuador and Peru allowed him to fulfill his dream of studying with indigenous shamans in their native lands, ultimately to utilize their wisdom and traditions by leading healing circles in many parts of the world. Since then he has become recognized for the healing work he does in ceremonial settings. His work is a unique combination of traditional Amazonian shamanism, deep energetic healing, and sound healing techniques from many of the world’s cultures.
Over time, shamanism, sound and music have grown to be an increasingly important aspect of his healing work. He utilizes vocal chants and toning, drumming, Tibetan singing bowls, didgeridoos, bells, rattles, conch shells, jaw harps, and a gong, to create a tapestry of sound that is relaxing, healing, and promotes deep inner journeying. This enables a deep entrainment of the brain into states conductive to true healing. He is the creator of soundJourney, an inner shamanic experience of sound and vibration and is the founder of Heartfeather, where he leads shamanic journeys to Peru, Ecuador, and other parts of the world.
