First Psychedelic Awareness Salon

Psychedelic Awareness Salon - Aware Project: Rethinking Psychedelics

2015 Jan 27: The Aware Project ( is launching the first in a series of Psychedelic Awareness Salon events. We are creating a connected and educated community that feels passionately about balancing the conversation about psychedelics.

Our first speaker will be Kathleen Wirt, a prominent member of the psychedelic community, who will speak about the Albert Hofmann Friday Night dinners she held at her home in Venice from 1997 to 2005. Reacting to Zero Tolerance and America's Drug War, intellectuals "of like mind" met secretly at monthly potluck dinners with speakers who were experts on the issues at hand. Psychedelic elders passed wisdom to young ravers, alliances were formed, and guerrilla warfare was engaged. Speakers and attendees included Sasha and Ann Shulgin. Jack Herrer, Dr. Oscar Janiger, Myron Stolaroff, Art Kunkin, Gary Fisher, John Lilly, Laura Huxley, Allen Ginsberg. and many more. Lorenzo Hagerty wrote in "Caitlin's Salon," Chapter 9 of his book "The Genesis Generation," "you might imagine that you had found yourself at a Communist Party cell meeting in Chicago in the 1930's." Check out this recording from one of those potlucks ( In the spirit of what they started, we would like to gather the psychedelic community in the Los Angeles area so that we may learn from one another.
