Ceremony, The Show

Aware Project: Rethinking Psychedelics

2016 March 30:  The Aware Project is excited to present something NEW! Michael Kass will be performing his one-man-show, 'Ceremony,' directed by Diana Wyenn!

Show Description: Ceremony: A True Tale of Love, Fear, and Ayahuasca grew out of the belief that stories have the power to transform both storyteller and audience, that something magical happens when one person stands in front of a bunch of other people and shares something true about themselves. Ceremony is about a shamanic ceremony and deep awakening experience, but it also becomes a kind of ceremony itself. Each performance allows us to come together as a community for an hour and share an adventure.

Since its premiere in 2012, Ceremony has toured to Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Orlando, Las Vegas and Harrisburg, PA. LAist praised the production stating, “A worthy lineal descendant of Spalding Gray’s Swimming to Cambodia, this Ceremony is an occasion to savor and certainly not to miss.” LA Weekly designated the show its Pick of the Week and one of the 20 Best Things to Do in L.A. The production has also received multiple awards including the Duende Distinction for Playwriting, Best of Fringe at the Hollywood and San Francisco Fringe Festivals, and Outstanding Solo Show at the San Diego International Fringe Festival. The show has appealed to audiences ranging from a precocious 11 year old to a Brasilian curandera with 20 years of experience working with medicine (her response was a beautiful story all on its own!).
