2016 April 19: The Aware Project is excited to host our 2nd annual Bicycle Day L.A. celebration! bicycleday.la
What IS Bicycle Day?! Bicycle Day is an international psychedelic holiday that commemorates the date that Dr. Albert Hofmann first tripped on LSD and bicycled home from his lab in Basel, Switzerland on April 19th, 1943. During the bicycle ride home, he experienced the psychedelic effects of LSD, making this the date of the first acid trip in history, propelling the West into the Psychedelic Age. Learn more about the history of Bicycle day here.
In honor of the occasion, our vision is to create a space to celebrate and explore the impact that psychedelics have made on creativity, medical science, community, and spirituality. We strive to engage in a balanced conversation about the use of psychedelics and the influence they have played on our society & culture. We will be hosting prominent engaging talks, talented performers, and thumping soulful beats. This will be an opportunity to learn, celebrate, and foster community conversation. (We will not be doing a bicycle ride...maybe next year!)

TITLE: Going Furthur: Ken Kesey and the Evolution of Counterculture
DESCRIPTION: In 1964 Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters set out in a hand-painted school bus named Furthur, destined for a different kind of trip. In this talk, Going Furthur director Lindsay Kent discusses bridging the gap between the psychedelic pioneers of the 60s and the counter-culture ethos of today. Are we carrying a torch, or burning a whole new flame?
BIO: Lindsay Kent is a producer, director and editor based in Los Angeles. She joined filmmakers Colby Rex O’Neill and Matt Pidutti on the 50th Anniversary tour of the Furthur bus in 2014. The small crew shot over 400 hours of footage, digging deep into the roots of the counter-culture movement and uncovering how the mission of those first few idealists influenced a new generation. The film, Going Furthur, is currently wrapping post production (https://www.facebook.com/goingfurthur). Lindsay is currently in pre-production on another documentary called Love on Haight Street, about the Summer of Love and the Haight/Ashbury district in 1967, and the ensuring evolution of the Haight district through today (https://www.facebook.com/loveonhaightstreet).
